Ronaldo scores for Portugal - Slovakia qualifies for European Championship
Portugal have continued their winning streak in the European Championship qualifiers, thanks in part to superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
The Seleção, who have already qualified for the 2024 European Football Championship in Germany, won 2:0 (0:0) in Liechtenstein. At the same time, Slovakia booked their European Championship ticket with a 4:2 (2:1) win against Iceland.
Ronaldo (46th minute) and former Bayern player João Cancelo (57th) secured an unchallenged victory for the underdogs in Vaduz. It was the Portuguese side's ninth win in their ninth European Championship qualifier.
The Slovakians' success was also largely unchallenged. Juraj Kucka (30), former Bundesliga professional Ondrej Duda (36) and Lukas Haraslin (47/55) scored the goals against Iceland. Orri Oskarsson (17) and Andri Gudjohnsen (74) scored for the visitors.
Luxembourg, who have been surprisingly strong in this European Championship qualifier so far, can still qualify for the play-offs after another success. Cologne's Mathias Olesen (6th), Gerson Rodrigues (30th/penalty/90th +5) and an own goal from Nihad Mujakic (55th) secured the 4:1 (2:0) victory against Bosnia-Herzegovina. Renato Gojkovic (90.+4) scored the goal for the visitors.
Portugal's dominance in the EM qualifiers continues, securing their ninth win in nine matches. Meanwhile, Slovakia also secured their qualification for the EM with a victory against Iceland.
