Rome experiences late-game Frustration as Hummels remains sidelined yet again
Mats Hummels, the fresh recruit at AS Roma, is yet to make his debut for the team. The 2014 World Cup victor was left on the bench once again during the 1-1 draw against Athletic Bilbao, with Aitor Paredes netting a late equalizer (85'). It was Artem Dovbyk who put Roma ahead in his debut match for the club (32'). AS Roma's coach, Ivan Jurić, made five substitutions, but Hummels remained out of the action. The 35-year-old, who joined the team recently, last featured on June 1, 2022, in the Champions League final for Borussia Dortmund against Real Madrid (1-2).
On the other hand, José Mourinho's new club, Fenerbahçe Istanbul, had a rocky start in the Europa League, but managed to clinch a 2-1 victory against Union Saint-Gilloise. The Turkish powerhouse fought hard for their opening points in the new league format. Caglar Söyüncü (26') and an own goal by Christian Burgess (82') put Fenerbahçe on top, but Ross Sykes (90'+3) pulled one back for Saint-Gilloise. Fenerbahçe began slowly and narrowly avoided conceding when Franjo Ivanovic hit the post (17'). After taking the lead, they played with more confidence and had few issues. Kevin Mac Allister's red card (73') for Union Saint-Gilloise gave Fenerbahçe a sense of security. In a chaotic final stretch, Bright Osayi-Samuel caused a penalty and was sent off (90'), but Dominik Livakovic saved the day for Fenerbahçe.
Mats Hummels might be eager to showcase his skills in Soccer, having not yet featured for AS Roma in a match. Despite José Mourinho's new team, Fenerbahçe Istanbul, facing challenges in the Europa League, they managed to secure a victory through Soccer, with goals from Caglar Söyüncü and an own goal by Christian Burgess.
