Romania leaves an emotional letter in the cabin
The Romanian national team was one of the surprises of the UEFA European Football Championship. The Eastern Europeans stormed into the round of 16 as group leaders, but the Dutch were too big of a number for them in the knockout stage. After the match, the Romanians left a message in the dressing room - for Germany.
The disappointment among the Romanian football team was great after their elimination from the EURO 2024, but they did not want to leave Germany as unwelcome guests. According to UEFA's X announcement, National Coach Eduard Iordanescu's team cleared out their Munich dressing room after the 0:3 loss against the Netherlands - and left an emotional letter for the host country.
"The EURO 2024 was one of the most important football experiences for us all, and we are very happy that the stage for it was Germany," it read: "Every game, every emotion, every experience brought us together to feel the magic of football."
The team left Germany "with the feeling that we have given everything for Romania" and were "grateful for all that we have experienced here." It was an honor to be part of the large European football family."
Romania had qualified for the round of 16 with a convincing 3:0 win against Ukraine, a 0:2 loss against Belgium, and a 1:1 draw against Slovakia. As the outsider, they then lost 0:3 to the Dutch team. The "National Team" took an early lead but then gave away chance after chance. The Romanians could not capitalize on this, and in the end, a double pack from Borussia Dortmund star Donyell Malen made it clear. And so, after two exciting weeks in Germany, all that was left to say was: "Thank you for giving us the feeling of being at home!"
The Romanian team expressed their gratitude to Germany for hosting the European Football Championship 2024, despite their elimination in the knockout stage. Despite their disappointing 0:3 loss against the Netherlands, Romania looked forward to participating in future European Football Championship events in Germany.
