Richard Wagner - Roberto Blanco and Vicky Leandros at Bayreuth Festival
Roberto Blanco, Vicky Leanders and only a few German political figures: The city Bayreuth has announced who will walk over the red carpet at the start of the Richard Wagner-Festspiele on July 25th. Actor Heiner Lauterbach and Francis Fulton-Smith are expected to attend.
Few representatives from federal politics are present
Only a few representatives from federal politics have been invited this year: Claudia Roth, Green Party Culture Minister, has accepted the invitation from the city of Bayreuth. In addition, the Green Party chairwoman, Ricarda Lang, is traveling there. Federal ministers or ministers, or even Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD), are not attending the festival opening.
The Bavarian state government is strongly represented: Led by Minister-President Markus Soeder (CSU) and his deputy Hubert Aiwanger (Free Voters), numerous cabinet members plan to watch and listen to the multi-hour production of "Tristan and Isolde."
Additionally, the guest list of the city includes cabaret artist Michl Müller, Bamberg Archbishop Herwig Goßl, and Duke Franz of Bavaria. Reiner Haseloff, Minister President of Saxony-Anhalt (CDU), is also on the list.
A loyal Wagner regular from past decades is missing: It was announced earlier in the week that the former Federal Chancellor Angela Merkel (CDU) will not attend a performance this year. Merkel and her husband Joachim Sauer are known to be great supporters of Wagner's work. Entertainer and moderator Thomas Gottschalk, who was particularly cheered on by the audience as he walked over the red carpet, is also not present this year.
The world-renowned festival, which only performs works by Richard Wagner (1813-1883) in the Festspielhaus, begins on July 25th with a new production of "Tristan and Isolde." Thorleifur Oern Arnarsson from Iceland directs the production, and Semyon Bychkov conducts the music.
