Olympic preparation - Revenge in London: German basketball players test against USA

The German basketball team will once again face the star ensemble from the USA in the 2024 Olympic year. The duel will take place immediately before the Olympic Games on July 22 (8 p.m.) in the O2 Arena in London, as announced by both associations.

It is the clash between the Olympic champions and the world champions just a few days before the Olympic basketball tournament, which takes place from July 27 to August 11 in Lille and Paris. At the World Championships in Manila, Germany won a thrilling semi-final by a completely surprising 113:111.

German coach Gordon Herbert said: "This is a great opportunity to play against the USA right before the Olympic Games. A final tune-up with a game against probably the biggest favorite for the Olympics. It's a perfect yardstick for us." The Germans also played their final test against the USA before the World Cup in Asia. In Abu Dhabi, they lost 91:99 despite taking a clear lead. The USA will play South Sudan two days earlier in London.

Test against France also planned

Germany will not only play a test against the USA before the Olympics, but also against the hosts France, who are planning for the participation of super talent Victor Wembanyama. The match is scheduled for July 6 (4 p.m.) in Cologne.

By winning their own World Cup title, head coach Herbert's team will avoid one of the qualifying tournaments. Slovenia and Greece will meet in one of the four tournaments. This means that either Slovenia's star Luka Doncic or Greece's showpiece player Giannis Antetokounmpo will not be taking part in the Olympics in Paris.
