The well-known pop icon, Madonna, is... - Restart of biopic that had been paused.

There's been no recent updates on the Madonna biopic until 2020 when the 65-year-old announced her plans to both produce and direct a film about her life. However, finding the right actress for the lead role wasn't easy, with Julia Garner (30) being selected in 2022. The project eventually encountered a roadblock in January 2023. But now, Madonna is ready to move forward with her cinematic autobiography.

Having just wrapped up her successful world tour that visited 35 cities, Madonna is set to kick start her film project. According to "The Sun," filming will begin within the next 12 months, with the script ready by this summer. Previously, Diablo Cody (45) was set to write the script, but she has since stepped down.

Julia Garner: The Ideal Madonna

The lead actress remains the same as initially chosen: Julia Garner will continue to play the role of the Queen of Pop. To prepare for the role, she underwent extensive training in singing and dancing during her break.

The casting process was lengthy and challenging. Candidates had to audition for Madonna for a total of 11 hours. Julia Garner emerged victorious, even though she has no musical experience. Even established singers like Bebe Rexha (34) and Sky Ferreira (31) failed to capture the part. The role also drew interest from stars like Florence Pugh (28) from "Dune" and "Oppenheimer" and Sydney Sweeney (26) from "Euphoria," but they couldn't make the cut.

Julia Garner is best known for her roles in successful Netflix shows "Ozark" and "Inventing Anna," where she played swindler Anna Sorokin.
