Report: Union Berlin wants to introduce Raúl as coach

The search for a new coach at 1. FC Union Berlin could be officially over this weekend. According to a report in "Kicker", the new coach of the Berlin Bundesliga club is to be presented this Sunday. According to the report, rumors are growing that the new coach will be Real Madrid legend Raúl (46).

The former top striker, who knows the Bundesliga from his active time at FC Schalke 04 (2010 to 2012), currently coaches the U23s of the Spanish record champions. Union would be his first professional coaching position.

After more than five years in charge, Berlin recently parted ways with their previous head coach Urs Fischer. Interim coach Marco Grote and assistant Marie-Louise Eta were on the bench for the 1-1 draw against FC Augsburg on Saturday. "For now, I'm assuming that we'll also be coaching the game against Braga," Grote said after the match. The Champions League match at SC Braga (21:00/DAZN) on Wednesday is likely to decide whether Union will finish third in next year's Europa League.

Union president Dirk Zingler had said on Sky before the game about the search for a coach following the departure of long-term coach Fischer: "Everyone who comes to the Alte Försterei knows what to expect here. In the end, it has to be a coach who has authenticity, who has a clear path. Then we will also come together."

The 1. FC Union Berlin is reportedly set to introduce Real Madrid legend Raúl as their new coach in the Bundesliga, potentially this weekend. If the reports are true, Raúl, who previously played in the Bundesliga with FC Schalke 04, would be stepping into his first professional coaching role at Union Berlin.

With Raúl as the potential new coach, Union Berlin could look to build on their recent 1-1 draw against FC Augsburg, with interim coach Marco Grote and assistant Marie-Louise Eta still in charge for the upcoming Champions League match against SC Braga.
