Bundesliga - Report: New Bayern contract for Müller before Christmas

According to information from "Sport Bild", national player Thomas Müller's contract with record German soccer champions FC Bayern Munich is to be extended until 2025 before Christmas.

Müller's current contract expires next summer. Both sides had recently signaled their general willingness to continue working together.

"There is no one who has internalized FC Bayern like him. We know what we have in him," said Bayern's sporting director Christoph Freund on the sidelines of the Champions League match at Manchester United (1:0) about the 34-year-old: "It's a special situation for Thomas, but we're in good contact. He behaves extremely professionally towards the team," Freund said on Prime Video.

The attacking player is no longer a regular under coach Thomas Tuchel, and Müller only came on as a second-half substitute against Man United. He has spent his entire professional career at Bayern. Müller recently announced that he definitely wanted to continue his playing career beyond next summer.

Club president Herbert Hainer recently stated that Müller "won't be playing for another club after the summer, I'm convinced of that". Instead, the club's wish is to retain an icon like Müller in some capacity beyond his professional career.
