Renowned trainer Sven-Goran Eriksson has passed away.
Football community is in deep sorrow after the demise of Sven-Göran Eriksson. The esteemed coach succumbed to cancer, having fought valiantly against the illness. As per reports from his representative Bo Gustavsson, he passed away peacefully at home, with his loved ones by his side. At the time of his passing, Eriksson was 76 years old.
Earlier this year, Eriksson revealed that he had been diagnosed with advanced pancreatic cancer and was given a maximum of twelve months to live. Subsequently, he relinquished his post as sporting director for Karlstad, based in his native Sweden.
In July, the acclaimed England national team manager realized a cherished ambition: He took charge of FC Liverpool for one match. In a legend's game, he steered the Reds' squad to a 4-2 triumph against Ajax Amsterdam's legends team. Prior to the encounter, he shared an emotional farewell with then Liverpool manager Jürgen Klopp.
Throughout his illustrious coaching career, the former defender led clubs such as Benfica Lisbon, AS and Lazio Rome, and Manchester City, in addition to managing national teams for England, Mexico, the Philippines, and the Ivory Coast. His coaching journey extended over a staggering four decades.
The soccer community also expressed condolences upon hearing about Sven-Göran Eriksson's passing. Despite his battle with advanced pancreatic cancer, Eriksson continued to show his passion for the sport, leading FC Liverpool's legends team to a victory in July.
