Rasenballsport bows to "absolute legend"

The official announcement of Emil Forsberg's departure is only a matter of time. Teammates and coaches rave about Leipzig's footballer after his last Champions League game and pay tribute to a "RB player like no other".

The raves about Emil Forsberg were never-ending. This was not necessarily due to the fact that the Swedish mastermind had scored RB Leipzig to a 2:1 victory against Young Boys Bern. The last group game of the Champions League was quite meaningless in sporting terms, all decisions had already been made. And yet it will remain an unforgettable evening for Forsberg - because it was almost certainly his last in the top flight.

The 32-year-old could hardly have created a better setting. In September 2017, he scored Leipzig's first goal in the Champions League. So it was almost logical that he wanted to say goodbye with a goal. His transfer to the sister club in New York has been decided, the only thing missing is the official announcement. All parties should get around to this in the coming days, especially as the last home game of the year against Hoffenheim is coming up on Saturday (3.30 pm/Sky and live ticker on ntv.de).

"A RB player as he stands in the book"

"If there's anything to report, Emil does it and we do it too," said coach Marco Rose and immediately launched into a hymn of praise: "Emil is an outstanding guy, very important for a dressing room. He has a relaxed approach, he's very human, fundamentally positive and at the same time very ambitious. He sometimes shows the coach where the frog's curls are. You also have to be quick-witted with him."

Forsberg, who arrived from Malmö in 2015, will not only be missed by the coach, but also in the dressing room. "Emil has been sitting next to me in the dressing room for six years. Everyone knows how well we get on, it's not for nothing that we call ourselves brothers," said Kevin Kampl. It was fitting that Kampl, of all people, set up Forsberg for his last goal in the top flight: "I'm very happy about that, it doesn't happen that often."

If the worst comes to the worst, Kampl will "miss Emil a lot". "He's an absolute legend at this club," said the midfielder. "What he has done for the club over all these years and I don't think it will happen that often again." He will simply be missed by the team, the club and the whole city.

At the end of his almost nine years in Leipzig, Forsberg will be remembered for much more than his goals and assists. The Swede is a figure of identification for the fans, in the city the name Emil was the first choice for newborns for many years, he often walked through Leipzig's largest park with golden retriever Roffe, his wife Shanga and their offspring without any fear of contact.

On the pitch, Forsberg was often the X-factor. He fired Leipzig into the Bundesliga with a goal against Karlsruhe, reached the last 16 of the Champions League for the first time with his header against Benfica Lisbon and without his winning goal in stoppage time of the cup semi-final against Union Berlin, the first title in the club's history would not have been possible. Sporting director Rouven Schröder summed it up perfectly: "He's a RB player in the book."

Despite Forsberg's decision to leave RB Leipzig for their sister club in New York, the team is eagerly anticipating their last home game against Hoffenheim. This game, set for Saturday at 3:30 pm, might see the official announcement of Forsberg's transfer, as the team bids farewell to an "RB player like no other" who has significantly contributed to their Champions League journey and Bundesliga successes.

As the transfer rumors swirl around the Champions League champion and top performer, soccer fans around the world can't ignore the recent transfers and rumors surrounding RB Leipzig and their star player Emil Forsberg. With his incredible performances and unique style, Forsberg may soon become a valuable asset in the MLS, leaving a significant void in the Leipzig lineup.
