Rangnick clarifies his refusal for FC Bayern role.
Ralf Rangnick rejected the offer to coach FC Bayern Munich because he didn't want to risk his current position as the Austrian national soccer team's head coach. After leading his team to the European Championship, he said that he had invested two years into this role and would not toss it away just to join Bayern Munich.
The decision wasn't an easy one and it was a tough time for Rangnick, who had been in negotiations with the German Champions. According to him, it was impossible to manage both positions for the next two and a half months. If he had actually wanted to take the Bayern Munich job starting May 1, then he would have been their coach by now. However, he knew that taking on both roles at once would have been too much.
He was careful not to jeopardize his recent success in Austria and admitted that his heart and gut told him to stay put. Both of his appointments were set until 2025, and if the team qualifies for the 2026 World Cup, his contract could be extended to 2026. Rangnick said he made the right decision in the end.
Besides being the Austrian national team coach since 2022, Rangnick is also well-known for his history in the Bundesliga, having been a coach there in the past. Despite the tempting opportunity to coach FC Bayern Munich, he chose to continue with his current role, feeling that it was still the best choice for him.
