King Charles III and Queen Camilla - Rainy visit to Edinburgh Castle

King Charles III. (75) and Queen Camilla (76) are currently in Scotland for the annual Holyrood Week. The pair traveled by helicopter from their Scottish residence Birkhall to Edinburgh on Tuesday (2nd July), where the Monarch received the symbolic keys of the city. A garden party took place there in the evening. On Wednesday, a visit to Edinburgh Castle was on the agenda - and of course, some Scottish traditions could not be missed.

Rain, Whiskey and Cake in Edinburgh

Rain and wind could not prevent the King and Queen from attending. Charles arrived at the castle in a traditional Scottish kilt combined with a jacket, while Queen Camilla wore a mint green two-piece. Upon arrival at the castle, they were greeted by a specially composed music piece from the City of Edinburgh Band. While they ran through the rain, Camilla joked loudly to "Daily Mail": "I'm holding on to my umbrella." Charles reportedly said to a guest: "I hope you don't fly away."

In a tent set up in front of the castle, Charles and Camilla tasted a 52-year-old whisky from Aberdeen, especially Camilla was reportedly fond of the liquor. To celebrate Edinburgh's 900th birthday, the pair were also allowed to cut an extravagant cake made by the "Great British Bake Off" winner of 2020.

Shortened Stay due to Parliamentary Election

The Scottish stay of the Monarch and his wife during the Holyrood Week is a little shorter than usual this year. The reason should be the British parliamentary election on 4th July. The royal family had to reschedule engagements, "which could give the impression of being distracted from the election campaign", quoted the British BBC. The visit to Edinburgh Castle marks the end of the visit.
