Rafael Nadal announces the next bittersweet news

At the Olympics, it didn't work out with the long-awaited medal for Rafael Nadal. In the giant duel with Novak Djokovic, he was already out of contention in the second round, and now he announces that he will not participate in the US Open. His next appearance is planned in Berlin.

Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal has withdrawn from the US Open. "I have decided not to participate in the US Open this year. A place where I have unforgettable memories. I will miss these electrifying and special nights in New York, but I don't think I could give 100 percent," the 38-year-old wrote on X, formerly Twitter. The fourth Grand Slam tournament of the year will take place from August 26 to September 8.

Nadal started in the singles and doubles at the Olympics in Paris. In singles, he lost to eventual gold medalist Novak Djokovic from Serbia in the second round. In doubles, it was over with compatriot Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals. According to Nadal, his next appearance is planned for the Laver Cup. The comparison of European tennis professionals with the rest of the world will take place from September 20 to 22 in Berlin.

Six Grand Slams missed in two years

Nadal, who has had to deal with numerous injuries in recent years, did not want to go into detail about a possible end to his career recently. His eternal rival Roger Federer ended his career two years ago at the Laver Cup in London. With the withdrawal for the US Open, Nadal will miss his sixth Grand Slam tournament within two seasons.

The Spaniard has won 22 of the coveted trophies at the four most important tennis tournaments. He achieved his last Grand Slam triumph at the French Open 2022. Since then, Nadal has had to take several enforced breaks.

Following his early exit in the Olympics, Rafael Nadal announced that he will be skipping the US Open this year, missing his sixth major tournament in two years. Despite having unforgettable memories at the US Open, the Spanish tennis star felt he couldn't give his best. Additionally, Nadal had a tough time in the Olympics, losing to Novak Djokovic in the second round of the singles event and exiting in the quarterfinals of the doubles with Carlos Alcaraz.
