Initial glimpses of "Those Destined to Perish" - Preview of Roland Emmerich's gladiator programme.
Prepare for the release of Ridley Scott's highly anticipated "Gladiator II" sequel in German cinemas this November - before that, get a taste of bloodthirsty ancient Rome with Roland Emmerich's new Amazon series, "Those About to Die." This historical show, produced by the "Independence Day" filmmaker, brings you close to gripping gladiator battles and is expected to cost a reported $140 million.
A Glimpse into "Those About to Die"
The year is 79 AD, and ancient Rome is the bustling hub of the known world. Slaves stream into the city from all corners of the Roman Empire, performing menial tasks for the Romans. As the population is starting to become restless and tired of their everyday lives, they are thrilled by gruesome gladiator games. These fights between slaves and conscripted soldiers see lives being traded like they're of no worth.
In Rome, shares of the four corporations that arrange the bloody events are like gold. To keep the masses entertained, these companies are always looking for more thrilling and exaggerated forms of entertainment, from chariot races to animal and gladiator fights.
