Potocka collapsed in hospital - asthma as a cause?

There's a shocking moment in the swimming preliminaries of the Olympic Games. After completing her race, Slovak swimmer Tamara Potocka collapses by the poolside. Medical staff treat her and take her to a hospital. Her coach explains how the incident occurred.

Slovak swimmer Tamara Potocka collapsed after her race at the Olympics. The 21-year-old had to be treated by medics at the poolside. She was carried out of the venue on a stretcher, wearing an oxygen mask. She was conscious and receiving medical attention, according to the deputy media chief of the La Défense Arena, as reported by the German Press Agency. Later, ARD reported that Potocka was "doing well given the circumstances."

The TASR news agency quoted Ivana Lange, coach of the Slovak swimming team, as saying: "Tamara Potocka is an asthmatic and had an asthma attack after swimming. She didn't have her asthma medication with her, which is why she collapsed." Lange also said: "In the medical treatment room, she received oxygen and presumably medication. She was responsive and communicating. She will now spend some time in the hospital for observation."

Potocka competed in the 200m individual medley preliminary round. She placed 23rd. It was her first-ever race at the Olympic Games.

After the intense swim, Tamara Potocka struggled with her asthma and required medical attention by the poolside. Despite the scare, Potocka expressed her well-being to the German Press Agency, thanks to prompt attended care.
