Nuptial agreement - Potential marital issues within the Spanish royal household might lead to a divorce involving Letizia.
Recently, whispers have been spread around that the Spanish royal couple might have been living a fake marriage for a while now. This assumption was ignited by an author named Jaime Penafiel, who published a book titled "Los silencios de Letizia" (The Silence of Letizia in English). In this book, he discusses separate bedrooms, infidelity on Letizia's side, supposedly having nine affairs within the marriage, and a union just for their professional obligations and children.
King Felipe and Queen Letizia, celebrating their 20th wedding anniversary on May 22, are said to have had secret relationships for years with different people. It is also stated in the 91-year-old author's book that the queen keeps up the façade only because the children are not yet of legal age. They have two daughters together, Princess Leonor (18 years old) and Princess Sofia (17 years old). The royal couple's marriage is believed to continue until Sofia turns 20 in 2025 due to custody regulations in their marriage contract.
Queen Letizia reportedly signed a rough marriage contract at her wedding to the Spanish royal family in 2004
The news site "El Nacional de Catalunya" revealed that Queen Letizia, a former journalist, entered into a difficult marriage contract when she tied the knot with the Spanish royal family in 2004. This contract involves dividing assets, which means that she would not be entitled to a share of the royal family's wealth in case of a divorce. However, she would receive a significant sum in millions and summer and winter houses with 24-hour concierge service.
The contract's details were revealed by Letizia's cousin, David Rocasolano, in his book "Adiós Princesa." Despite its downside, the 51-year-old queen stands to lose custody of her children if they divorced. The kids would stay in the Spanish palace, the "Palacio de la Zarzuela," and Letizia would also lose her claim to the throne and Royal Highness title.
However, a different royal expert, Pilar Eyre, remains hopeful about the ongoing speculations about the alleged dissolved marriage: "They won't get divorced, Felipe doesn't want to cause any harm. (...) Letizia enjoys being queen."
