During the EM-Quarterfinals between Germany and Denmark in Dortmund, a man climbed onto the roof of Westfalenstadion and had to be rescued by the police. Law enforcement officers approached the man during the Germany vs. Denmark match, "to ensure a safe transport", as the Dortmund police stated on Saturday.

The match had to be temporarily suspended in Dortmund due to a thunderstorm. The English referee Michael Oliver stopped the game between Germany and Denmark in the 35th minute. Approximately 25 minutes later, the game could be resumed.

The EM climber has been identified

The climber was identified as a 21-year-old from Osnabrück, the police announced on Sunday morning. The man had been arrested. There is currently no information that the 21-year-old intended to endanger the stadium visitors, it was further stated.

Law enforcement officers had reportedly approached the man in the stadium and spoken to him. A helicopter had also illuminated the stadium roof. At no point did there exist a danger to other people.

According to the police reports, the man had already climbed onto the roof of the stadium at 10:27 pm. The police could not make any statements about his motivation at first. It was also unclear at first how he had gotten onto the roof.
