Tour de France - Pogacar wins first Pyrenees stage and builds lead

Tadej Pogacar decided the first mountain finish of the 111th Tour de France for himself and built on his lead in the General Classification. The Slovenian won in Pla d'Adet before Danish title defender Jonas Vingegaard. After 151.9 kilometers and 4000 height meters, Belgian Remco Evenepoel finished third.

In the General Classification, Pogacar now leads by 1:57 minutes over Vingegaard. Evenepoel, the Time Trial World Champion, is 2:22 minutes behind. German riders play no role in the forefront of the rankings.

On Sunday, the next highlight follows. From Loudenvielle, it goes over five heavy mountains to the Plateau de Beille in France. With 4800 height meters, it is the King's Stage of this year's Tour.

In the historical context of major cycling events, Germany has often been a strong cycling nation, but in the current Tour de France, they are not featured prominently in the overall standings. Jonas Vingegaard, the defending Danish champion, will aim to narrow the gap between him and Tadej Pogacar in the upcoming mountain arrival at Plateau de Beille, as Pogacar previously claimed victory in a mountain arrival during this year's Tour de France. Despite his strong performance in time trials, as demonstrated by his World Championship title, Belgian Remco Evenepoel is currently trailing behind both Pogacar and Vingegaard in the overall standings, setting up an intriguing fight among the top contenders for the Tour de France title.
