Pogacar overtakes Vingegaard at Plateau de Beille
Impressive Pyrenees Show by Tadej Pogacar: The Leader of the Tour de France wins also the spectacular stage up to Plateau de Beille. During this, the Slovenian countered an attack from a big rival Jonas Vingegaard.
Tadej Pogacar won the king's stage of the 111th Tour de France and built on his lead in the general classification. After climbing 4800 meters and five challenging mountain passes, the Slovenian cycling star celebrated at the French National Holiday with more than a minute lead over the Danish title defender Jonas Vingegaard. After 197.7 kilometers on the 15th stage between Loudenvielle and the Plateau de Beille, the Belgian time trial world champion Remco Evenepoel came in third over the finish line on Sunday.
In the general classification, Pogacar now has more than three minutes over Vingegaard. With this, the third Tour victory for the 25-year-old is within reach.
The cycling pros take a break on Monday after the two grueling Pyrenees stages. A sprint stage in Nimes comes next, followed by a gradual approach to the Alps. The Tour ends on July 21 with an individual time trial in Nice.
