In the first attempt of his career, Tadej Pogacar emerged victorious at the Giro d'Italia. The 25-year-old Slovenian secured a spot in the peloton during the final stage in Rome. In the general standings, the young cyclist finished almost ten minutes ahead of Colombian Daniel Martinez, captain of the German team Bora-hansgrohe. Geraint Thomas of Wales clinched the third spot, reaching the podium just a day after celebrating his 38th birthday. Simon Geschke, the top German competitor, placing 14th as he brought his professional cycling journey to an end.
The final stage saw Belgian Tim Merlier clinch the top spot. Stepping out ahead of Jonathan Milan in a mass finish at the Colosseum, the 31-year-old achieved his third stage win, matching the achievement of Italian riders.
