Permanent duel with Medvedev: Zverev feels ready

Alexander Zverev against Daniil Medvedev - there is hardly a duel on the tennis tour that takes place more often. The German and the Russian have met 17 times in total.

The record is 10:7 in Medvedev's favor. The world number three has won four of the last five duels. The next clash at the ATP Finals is scheduled for this Wednesday evening (21:00/Sky). Both have won their opening matches in Turin and can take a big step towards the semi-finals on Saturday with another success.

Particularly explosive

Zverev against Medvedev - that always has a very special poignancy. Especially after the German's round of 16 exit at the Masters 1000 event in Monte-Carlo in April, things got heated between the two. Zverev called the Russian "the most unfair player" because of some of his actions on the court. Medvedev countered and said smugly that Zverev was "living in his own world". Afterwards, both claimed that everything was actually fine between them. But there is no denying that the two have a special rivalry.

Zverev and Medvedev met twice at the ATP Finals in Turin two years ago. Medvedev won in three sets in the group stage, but Zverev prevailed in two sets in the final and took the title for the second time at the annual meeting of the eight best tennis professionals.

"It feels like I always play against him"

"It feels like I always play against him," said Zverev about the duel with the world number three, who put in a very strong performance in his victory against his compatriot Andrei Rublev. However, Zverev also came up trumps in his three-set win against Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz from Spain. "Of course it was a great victory," said the 26-year-old.

On Tuesday, Zverev trained as normal on the side court at the Pala Alpitour and then signed countless autographs for the fans. His foot, which he twisted against Alcaraz, no longer seemed to cause him any problems during training.

Alexander Zverev will face Daniil Medvedev in the ATP Finals on Wednesday, aiming to turn the tide in their frequent rivalry. Their last encounter at the same event two years ago resulted in a Zverev victory, securing his second title at the meeting of the eight best tennis professionals.

With a record of 10:7 in Medvedev's favor, Zverev is eager to improve his position in their duels, especially after their heated exchange at the Masters 1000 event in Monte-Carlo earlier this year.
