Pep Guardiola has said that he is ‘closer to leaving that staying' at Manchester City after the club won its fourth straight Premier League title on Sunday.

Pep Guardiola edges towards departure from Manchester City after capturing fourth straight Premier League championship.

Pep Guardiola shaped the exceptional Barcelona squad of the late noughties and early 2010s, a team symbolizing the famous 'tiki-taka' playing style now prevalent globally, with Lionel Messi at its core.

Subsequently, he exerted a similar influence at Bayern Munich, securing three championships during his three-year tenure at the German juggernaut.

Most recently, Guardiola has influenced the English Premier League, which is renowned for its unpredictability. Manchester City has dominated this league, earning six titles in seven seasons and his fourth in a row on Sunday. This iteration of the City team has solidified its position among the greatest soccer teams ever in history.

Guardiola hinted after his team's title win that it might be part of his farewell in Manchester.

"The reality is I'm closer to leaving than to staying. It's eight years, will be nine. Right now my feeling is I want to stay next season," he told Sky Sports. "We talked with the club, we have until next season to talk because I have to see the players. If they follow me, we follow them. I want to stay next season," added Guardiola.

Over the past 15 years, Manchester City fans enjoyed an extraordinary period. They were formerly associated with the shadow of their crosstown rival, United, and seeking league titles was rarely their forte. The financial support of the club’s new Abu Dhabi owners in 2008 transformed their fortunes.

While it took a remarkable ending to the 2011-12 season for City's first win, Guardiola's arrival in 2016 marked the beginning of their title challenge. They eventually triumphed in the Champions League, FA Cup and Premier League in 2023, becoming only the second English club to complete the 'Treble'.

No longer were mental hurdles an issue for City. Guardiola proved decisive in leading them to this level, breaking their final obstacles. With Sunday's convincing victory, which concluded City's two-point margin over Mikel Arteta's Arsenal, the team's superiority is undeniable.

Guardiola's teams have thrived despite Erling Haaland's impressive goal-scoring ability, Joško Gvardiol's transformation from center-back to attacking left-back, and Phil Foden's Player of the Season-winning campaign. He continually sculpts England's football scenes.

Regardless, City's success finds them amidst criticism. In February 2023, the Premier League accused the club of breaching more than 100 financial rules, including providing inaccurate financial information, failing to comply with UEFA's financial fair play regulations, and disregard for Premier League profit and sustainability rules.

The league has since referred City to an independent commission. The club has consistently denied any wrongdoing, and the resolution of their case is still unclear.

But departing West Ham manager David Moyes highlighted Guardiola's prowess, told Sky Sports, "There was once an argument that clubs couldn't win the title back-to-back. He has dismantled that. Four titles in a row is incredible.

Manchester City has a chance to conclude this admirable season with a third cup win on June 3, 2023, when they face their rival United in the FA Cup final. Guardiola faces an opportunity to continue his championship results.

While his name has become intrinsically linked to triumph, he acknowledged its challenges. "I had that feeling last season when we won the Treble. There is nothing left, so what am I doing here? But since I have a contract, so I'm here and still loving some of these moments, being tired but loving it. I am feeling it is done. What's next? I can't tell you, right now. Well, we know it is the FA Cup."

So, what will be next for Manchester City and Guardiola?

"Yet, I understand that both the players and I will likely consider, 'What's stopping us from winning today? What's the point of not trying our best to accomplish our tasks?'"
