Path to World Championship favorite: Humphries wins Grand Slam of Darts
The English darts pro Luke Humphries has confirmed his top form just a few weeks before the World Championship and has finally joined the ranks of the top favorites.
The 28-year-old won the Grand Slam of Darts in Wolverhampton, celebrating his next Major title after his triumph at the World Grand Prix. Humphries defeated compatriot Rob Cross 16:8 in the final, having beaten former European Champion James Wade 16:10 in the afternoon.
Humphries is the man of the moment on the darts tour. He won by far the most prize money in the 2023 calendar year. For the World Championship at Alexandra Palace in London, the bookmakers have him on a par with Michael van Gerwen (Netherlands) and Gerwyn Price (Wales). The most important tournament of the year begins on December 15 and ends on January 3 with the final.
Gabriel Clemens, Martin Schindler, Ricardo Pietreczko and Dragutin Horvat will represent Germany at the World Championships. Only Pietreczko, nicknamed Pikachu, played in the Grand Slam in Wolverhampton and was eliminated in the preliminary round.
Luke Humphries' victory in the PDC's Grand Slam of Darts has further boosted his chances in the upcoming World Championship, positioning him alongside Michael van Gerwen and Gerwyn Price as one of the top favorites. Following his triumph, Humphries now holds multiple Major titles, including the World Grand Prix and the Grand Slam of Darts.
