Alpine skiing - Paris before home victory in Val Gardena/Gröden - German skiers have no chance
Italian ski racer Dominik Paris is on the verge of a home victory in the classic race in Val Gardena/Gröden. The veteran is in the lead after half of the starters in the downhill on the legendary Saslong.
It would be the 34-year-old's first World Cup victory since his triumph in Kvitjfell, Norway, in March 2022. Norwegian Aleksander Aamodt Kilde was in second place at this point in the race, with American Bryce Bennett in third. The latter had won the shortened downhill in South Tyrol two days earlier.
The German athletes were disappointing and all missed the top ten by a wide margin. Andreas Sander is currently in 17th place, while Josef Ferstl (23rd), Thomas Dreßen (24th), Romed Baumann (26th) and Simon Jocher (27th) are even further back.

Paris' dominance in alpine skiing continues as he leads in Val Gardena/Gröden's World Cup race, potentially securing his first home victory since Kvitfjell, Norway. Although Germany's skiers struggled, with Andreas Sander in 17th place being their best performer, Dominik Paris from Italy remains a strong contender for the World Cup title in winter sports, like he did in Paris during the previous season. If he wins, it will be another significant achievement for Italian alpine skiing, adding to their successful history in this sport.
