Packers and Dolphins suffer surprising defeats

The San Francisco 49ers are the first team to qualify for the NFL play-offs. A surprising defeat of the Green Bay Packers at the New York Giants secured the 49ers' ticket. Meanwhile, the Tennessee Titans managed a remarkable comeback.

The play-off contenders Miami Dolphins and Green Bay Packers suffered surprising defeats at the end of the 14th matchday in the NFL. The Dolphins, who have one of the best offenses in the league, lost 27:28 at home to the Tennessee Titans despite leading by 15 points, while the Packers lost 22:24 away to the New York Giants. While Miami continues to lead its own AFC East division despite the defeat and is clearly on course for the playoffs, the Packers missed an important step towards the final round.

The defeat leaves Green Bay, who recently caused a stir with a win against the reigning Super Bowl winners Kansas City Chiefs, with a record of six wins and seven defeats. The Packers are now tied with five other teams in the NFC Conference. The result in New York also means that the San Francisco 49ers are the first play-off team. The team from California can no longer be displaced from one of the top seven places in the NFC.

Meanwhile, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes of the Chiefs has apologized for his behavior towards the referees after the defeat in the NFL game against the Buffalo Bills. "Of course you don't want to react that way. I love this game and it's important to me. I love my teammates and I want to do everything I can to win. But of course I can't do that. I can't deal with the referees or anyone else in life like that," said the 28-year-old on the radio show "The Drive".

The referees had reversed a Chiefs touchdown shortly before the end of the 17:20 against the Bills. Wide receiver Kadarius Toney had positioned himself incorrectly. At the end of the game, Mahomes completely lost his temper and shouted at the referees. He could only be held back with difficulty by his teammates. Bills quarterback Josh Allen also felt the anger of the two-time MVP on the field. "More than anything, I regret the way I acted towards Josh after the game because he had nothing to do with it," Mahomes said remorsefully, "I was still upset and emotional, but you can't do that. That's not a good example for kids watching the game."
