Ouédraogo seriously injured after all - criticism of the DFB
Assan Ouédraogo from second-division soccer club FC Schalke 04 will now be out for a longer period of time after all.
The 17-year-old will not be able to play again until early 2024 at the earliest due to a tear in the anterior syndesmosis in his right foot. Schalke announced this after an MRI examination, meaning that the exact duration of his absence will not be known until January.
Hechelmann criticizes DFB
The attacking player suffered the injury at the U17 World Cup in Indonesia. National coach Christian Wück had subsequently stated that the injury was not that bad. However, this was not the case after a more detailed examination in Germany. "It is very bitter for the player and for Schalke 04 that, contrary to the initial assessments of the DFB doctors and coaches, Assan has suffered a more serious injury," said Schalke's sporting director André Hechelmann, expressing his anger at the German Football Association.
"Unfortunately, contact injuries are part of soccer. However, we would have liked to have received a clear diagnosis promptly after the game and thus clear communication from the association," criticized Hechelmann.
FC Schalke 04's Bundesliga 2 campaign might be affected by the prolonged absence of Assan Ouedraogo due to an injury sustained during the U17 World Cup. Integral to their team's offensive strategy, his absence could potentially leave a gap that André Hechelmann, Schalke's sporting director, will need to address with alternative plans.
Despite the criticisms levied towards the DFB by André Hechelmann, Assan Ouedraogo's initial injury assessment at the U17 World Cup proved inaccurate, leading to complications for the young soccer player and his team.
