Action-Role - Oscar-winner Yeoh features in the "Star Trek" trailer
Oscar-winner Michelle Yeoh (61, "Everything Everywhere All At Once") makes a chilling appearance in the first trailer for her new "Star Trek" film. In the brief two-minute video, she is referred to as the ruler Philippa Georgiou as a tyrant and "Bad Bitch," who murdered millions of her own people. The action-packed trailer had its premiere at the Comic-Con film festival in San Diego, California.
Last year, streaming service Paramount+ announced plans for the film "Star Trek: Section 31" with Yeoh in the lead role. In the series "Star Trek: Discovery," she had already played Captain Philippa Georgiou on the Starship Discovery and turned her into a cult figure.
In "Star Trek: Section 31," Georgiou now joins the Starfleet's secret service. The controversial, unofficial Section 31 is tasked with protecting the United Federation of Planets. However, Georgiou's dark past catches up with her. Paramount+ plans to release the film in early 2025. Canadian Miku Martineau (19, "Honor Society") plays the young Georgiou.
Yeoh made Oscar history in 2023 when the Malaysian-born actress became the first Asian woman ever to be named best lead actress. She earned this honor for her role as the feisty wash salon owner in the action-comedy "Everything Everywhere All at Once." In the 80s, she filmed action movies in Hong Kong, later becoming a Bond girl ("Tomorrow Never Dies") and a swordswoman in "Tiger & Dragon," making a splash.
