Olympic Games 2024 - Opening ceremony and live competitions to watch
The Olympic Games 2024 in Paris begin on Friday evening with a novelty. For the first time, the Opening Ceremony will not take place in an Olympic Stadium, but on the Seine River, where Olympians will pass by the landmarks of the French capital on boats. Fans and interested parties can watch live on TV or stream online.
In Germany, the ARD will broadcast the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games 2024. The Sportschau with the pre-report starts at 18:00 hours, Moderator Alexander Bommes (48) conducts the program.
Olympic Opening Ceremony live: ARD and Eurosport broadcast from 19:30 hours in full length
At 19:15 hours, the ARD's regular news program, Tagesschau, will be interrupted for a quarter of an hour before the First starts broadcasting the entire Opening Ceremony without interruption from 19:30 hours. Friederike Hofmann and Tom Bartels (58) commentate. Alternatively, the ARD makes a livestream available in its Mediathek.
Eurosport also broadcasts the Opening Ceremony live from 19:30 hours. The sports channel goes on air at 18:00 hours with the program "Bonsoir Paris", Moderator Thomas Wagner (52) stands next to Germany's Olympic gold medalist from 2016, Fabian Hambüchen (36), as an expert. The Opening Ceremony itself is commented on by Sigi Heinrich (71). Livestreams, however, Eurosport only offers through its pay-per-view offer in the Eurosport Player.
From a German perspective, the seventh boat on the Seine deserves special attention, as the German Olympic team, led by Judoka Anna-Maria Wagner (28) and Basketballer Dennis Schröder (30), is on it.

At the Olympic Games 2024, there are a total of 329 decisions for gold, silver, and bronze - the games last from July 26 to August 11. Most of the decisions will be live on free TV on Eurosport 1, as Eurosport will become a pure Olympic channel in the coming two weeks, pushing all other sports aside. In addition, access to all Eurosport livestreams is also possible via Discovery+, the Eurosport parent company.
The ARD and ZDF are also in action daily, alternating in the linear TV program and showing approximately 240 hours of Olympic sport. In addition, around 1,500 hours of livestreams will be available in their respective Mediatheks.
