New series about the Royals - Omid Scobie's new novel will be filmed

Last year, Omid Scobie (43) was still making headlines with his revealing book "Endgame: Inside the Royal Family and the Monarchy's Fight for Survival" about the British Royal Family. Now, Scobie is working on a novel titled "Royal Spin," which is set to be adapted into a series later on. The provocative content: a glimpse behind the scenes of Buckingham Palace.

Much Anticipation for Omid Scobie's New Novel

According to both "People" magazine and "Deadline," Universal Television reportedly secured the rights to Scobie's upcoming novel. Reports suggest that other companies have also expressed significant interest and made offers.

Scobie's novel was written in collaboration with young adult novelist Robin Benway. "'Royal Spin' offers a fresh take that combines wit and romance wonderfully, and is an extremely entertaining exploration of the enduring fascination with the world of the royal family," Vivian Cannon, EVP Drama Development at Universal TV, is quoted as saying.

What's in "Royal Spin"

Specifically, "Royal Spin" revolves around the young American politician Lauren O'Connell from the White House, who is sent to revive the communications team at Buckingham Palace after a series of scandals involving the royals. However, in an institution steeped in tradition and strict protocol, change is not easy - or welcome. It turns out that the royal household is just as chaotic and confusing as the Capitol, according to "People" and "Deadline's" synopsis of Scobie's novel.

British journalist and author Robin Benway is teaming up with television writer, producer, and showrunner Emily Fox for the series. Fox will write the script for the pilot episode. All three are executive producers of the television project. For Scobie, this is his first time being involved in a television production. Further details about the series are still unknown.

He is Harry and Meghan's Favorite Journalist

In 2020, Scobie made headlines again when he released the book "Finding Freedom" about the Sussexes and their departure from the monarchy. This made him one of the most discussed Royal correspondents and the favorite journalist of Harry and Meghan.

The new series, titled "Royal Spin," is based on Omid Scobie's novel and is set to be adapted from his collaboration with Robin Benway. Universal Television has reportedly secured the rights to the novel, with significant interest and offers from other companies as well. The series is expected to provide a behind-the-scenes look at Buckingham Palace, much like Scobie's previous book "Endgame." Despite his involvement in this upcoming television production, Scobie is already known as Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan's favorite journalist, having written extensively about the Sussexes.
