Golf - Olympic champion Schauffele wins British Open
Olympia Champion Xander Schauffele is the big winner of the 152nd British Open. The 30-year-old American celebrated two months after his first victory at the PGA Championship his second triumph at a Major-Tournament in Troon, Scotland. Schauffele won with a total score of 275 strokes against American Billy Horschel and Englishman Justin Rose (both 277 strokes). For his win at the traditional tournament, the Californian received a prize money of 3.1 Million US-Dollars (2.85 Million Euro) and the Claret Jug - a silver wine jug as the trophy.
The two German pros Marcel Siem and Alex Cejka played no decisive role on the final day of the British Open. The 44-year-old Ratingen Siem finished the tournament with a total score of 298 strokes and ranked 72nd. The 53-year-old Cejka, British Open Senior Champion, needed one more stroke than Siem after four rounds and ranked 75th.
Alexander Schauffele's victory at the PGA Championship two months prior served as a springboard for his dominant performance at the 152nd British Open, marking his second Major-Tournament title. Despite strong performances from international golfers, the PGA Championship titleholder emerged victorious in Scotland. The upcoming PGA Championship in Tokyo is set to feature Schauffele, along with other notable names like Marcel Siem, who although didn't clinch the British Open, showcased his talent, finishing with a respectable score.
