Track and field events - Obstacle runner Krause determined to secure a European Championship medal without returning home.
Distance Runner Gesa Felicitas Krause is aiming to expand her collection of medals. At the ongoing European Athletics Championships in Rome, where she's competing in the 3000m Steeplechase, her goal is clear: go home with a medal. This two-time champion stated, "I definitely don't want to return empty-handed."
Currently, Krause feels like she still belongs in championships. She has already accomplished all her objectives for the year: German indoor champion in both 1500m and 3000m as well as qualifying for the Olympic Games. On Sunday evening (22.04 pm), she intends to add another title to her list by standing on the podium.
Leaving her daughter behind, she prepares for the serious race. "This won't be a children's sport," she says. "I'm approaching this European competition very seriously. Running competitions are a chance to run at the front in Europe," says the former World Championship third-place finisher.
Her family will look after their daughter while Krause concentrates on her race. Competition is not for the faint-hearted. By Tuesday, she'll focus on scaling heights, and from then on, only the Olympics matter. Krause anticipates that lightning-fast times would be necessary to make it among the top eight runners.
Winning the European Championship with her child would be a dream come true for Krause. "Gesa will be a mom, return, and become the European champion - that sounds fantastic, I would also like to hear that," she shares.
