Athletics Championships in Europe - Obstacle racer Gesa Krause places second in the European Championships following a hiatus for motherhood.

In the European Athletics Championships, Gesa Felicitas Krause secured a silver medal. The 31-year-old came in second place at her first title race after taking time off for maternity leave in Rome, competing over 3,000 meters hurdles. Alice Finot claimed victory with a time of 9:16.22 minutes and a European season best. Krause followed closely behind in 9:18.06 minutes, while Elizabeth Bird from Britain took third place in 9:18.39 minutes.

Krause, who has previously won championships in 2018 and 2022, was grateful for the silver medal despite the break. Lea Meyer from Leverkusen, who also competed in this year's European Athletics Championships, finished in ninth place. The U23 European champion, Olivia Gürth from Trier, ended up in eleventh place. All three German runners have now met the Olympic qualifying time.
