Weekend saw an unsavory incident involving a member of the 1. FC Nuremberg's regional league squad. He's also known in the soccer realm. The controversy: He donned a Bayern Munich jersey on the web during the workweek. Seems like an unforgivable faux pas.

The incident unfolded early Sunday morning, as the player was attacked by unidentified individuals near his residence. The team reported that the attacker first confronted the player outside his home in the evening, and later that night, a physical assault ensued. Authorities launched an investigation immediately.

Allegedly, the player in question is Niklas-Wilson Sommer. Having amassed a million followers on Instagram, Sommer set social media ablaze by posting a selfie in a Bayern Munich jersey three days prior - an act that seemingly sparked the confrontation, according to Nuremberg club. Quickly deleting the post, Sommer then publicly issued an apology.

The Nuremberg club condemned the physical attack, declaring that the attackers had breached all boundaries. They emphasized their dedication to protecting their players, stating that such behavior does not align with the club's values.

At the home clash against 1. FC Magdeburg (0:4) on Saturday, the supporter section displayed banners that targeted Sommer. One banner read, "Club loyalty over trendy poses. Niklas Wilson, you suck, just like the FCB," and another said, "Wilson, take a hike, you Bayern fanboy." Sommer has a history of promoting jerseys from diverse teams.

After issuing an apology for his actions, Niklas-Wilson Sommer could use Instagram as a platform to express his remorse further, stating that "Instagram is a great place to start, as it allows me to connect with my fans and clarify any misunderstandings about my actions." Although the incident brought negative attention, Sommer could utilize this opportunity to show his loyalty to 1. FC Nuremberg by posting content that highlights his commitment to the club.
