Novak Djokovic undergoes surgery to ensure his participation in the Olympics.
The renowned tennis player, Novak Djokovic, won't be attending Wimbledon due to a knee injury he sustained during the French Open. He underwent surgery to repair his meniscus in Paris.
According to "L'Équipe", a French newspaper, Djokovic, who has won 24 Grand Slam tournaments, will need to take a three-week hiatus following his surgery and will most likely not participate in the Wimbledon event that runs from July 1 to 14. However, there's still a possibility for him to participate in the Olympic Games tennis tournament in Paris if his knee reacts positively to the surgical intervention.
Djokovic decided to pull out of his quarterfinal match against the Norwegian player, Casper Ruud, during the French Open after suffering a medial meniscus tear in his right knee. He expressed his frustration, stating, "I've twisted my knee. I've been slipping and sliding the whole time. The court has broken my knee!" As a result, Djokovic's departure from the competition will cause him to lose his top position in the world rankings to the Italian, Jannik Sinner.
The injured athlete expressed his disappointment and mentioned, "I've played with all my heart and given everything." Despite his withdrawal, he encouraged the players competing in the tournament, writing on Instagram, "Good luck to all the players this week" and expressing gratitude to his fans for their "incredible love and continued support."
