Norris has to yield victory to teammates shortly before the end
McLaren Sizzled: Oscar Piastri Wins His First Formula-1 Grand Prix as Lando Norris Is Asked to Let Him Pass Two Rounds Before the End. There's Thrill in Formula 1 Again as Max Verstappen Finishes Fifth.
Australian Oscar Piastri won the tense Formula-1 race in Hungary and claimed his first Grand Prix victory at the McLaren team. The 23-year-old overtook his teammate Lando Norris for the lead. Norris, who had an early pit stop, only gave up his position in the final phase after repeated instructions from the pit wall.
Lewis Hamilton finished third on the Hungaroring near Budapest's gates for Mercedes. World champion Max Verstappen had to settle for fifth place after slowing down towards the end due to a problem and spinning off the track following a collision with Hamilton.
Red Bull's pilot Verstappen, who had frequently complained about his team's strategy, missed out on a third consecutive Grand Prix win. Verstappen remains comfortably ahead of Norris as the championship leader. The only German regular driver in the field, Nico Hülkenberg from the US team Haas, missed the points this time as he finished 13th.
After securing his first Grand Prix victory at McLaren, Oscar Piastri outperformed teammate Lando Norris throughout the Formula 1 race in Hungary. Despite Ferrari's (Formula-1) strong performance, Lewis Hamilton managed to secure a third-place finish for Mercedes, while Max Verstappen from Red Bull Racing struggled and finished fifth.
