Formula 1 at Silverstone - Norris also fastest in second practice
Lando Norris finished with the fastest time in the second free practice session for his Formula-1 home race. The 24-year-old English McLaren championship pursuer dominated after the incident with World Champion Max Verstappen at the Spanish Grand Prix and his premature retirement at the British Grand Prix.
Norris placed second in the first training session and then took the top spot in the second session with a time of 1:31.241, beating his teammate Oscar Piastri by 0.331 seconds. Piastri had previously finished third.
Sergio Pérez, Verstappen's teammate from Mexico, finished third in the afternoon session. Nico Hülkenberg, the 36-year-old German native and only German permanent driver, moved ahead of Charles Leclerc in the Ferrari (5th/Monaco) and Lewis Hamilton in the Mercedes (6th).
The 39-year-old British seven-time World Champion is waiting for his next win, which would be his 104th, after 940 days. He has won his home race at Silverstone eight times and taken pole position seven times. Verstappen followed behind Hamilton in seventh place.
In the standings, the three-time World Champion leads with 81 points. The qualifying session takes place on Saturday (4:00 PM MEZ/Sky and RTL), and the race starts on Sunday at 4:00 PM MEZ (Sky).
