Nobody will the 40-Tonnen-Gate from the fan zone
During the EM, the 23-meter high and 64-meter wide football goal on Berlin's Fan Mile was a magnet. After the tournament, it was supposed to be sold - unsuccessfully. Now it is to be scraped. On the other hand, the grass on the Fan Mile, which had been paved over with it, is in high demand.
Too big for your backyard or too expensive? The sale of the giant football goal from the EM Fan Mile at the Brandenburg Gate has failed. No buyer was found, according to a spokesperson for the steel construction company FSE from Wittenberg in Sachsen-Anhalt. It is now - as originally planned - to be scraped.
The goal is 23 meters high and 64 meters wide - and almost as wide as a complete football field. It stood during the Football-EM as decoration on the Fan Mile, and right behind the Brandenburg Gate, which it even surpassed in height. The goal is now being dismantled, and the materials are to be transported away in the coming week.
The oversized goal was first offered for sale for 180,000 Euro on a negotiable basis - for self-pickup. However, according to reports, there were no serious inquiries for the 40-tonne specimen. "Too bad, we wanted to be more sustainable," says the spokesperson.
A week after the end of the Football-EM, experts also began dismantling the artificial grass on the Fan Mile. The approximately 24,000 square meters of artificial grass laid on the Straße des 17. Juni are to be passed on to Berlin sports clubs, schools, kindergartens, and associations in the following.
To ensure that the grass can continue to be used, it is receiving a comprehensive ground cleaning and then cut to size. Some grass sections have already been assigned, says the spokeswoman. With many of the applications, however, the lot must now decide.
Despite its size and unique history, the oversized football goal from the EM Fan Mile at Berlin's Brandenburg Gate remains unsold. Even surpassing the Brandenburg Gate in height during the European Football Championship 2024, potential buyers have yet to emerge. Meanwhile, European Football Championship 2024 memorabilia like the grass from the Fan Mile is in high demand, with Berlin sports clubs and associations showing interest.
