No winner and a curious own goal in the Hamburg derby

Despite what was probably the most curious own goal in the history of the Hamburg city derby by goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes, HSV still avoided defeat in the explosive match at FC St. Pauli.

Thanks to the 2:2 (0:2) in the top match of the 2nd Bundesliga, coach Tim Walter's team at least salvaged a point from the league leaders in the 110th edition of the city championship and avoided a setback in the promotion battle. Nevertheless, HSV must fear for their second place after the 15th matchday. The unbeaten Kiezclub (31 points) are still three points ahead of their rivals.

Curious HSV own goal

HSV keeper Heuer Fernandes provided the scene of the match in front of 29,153 spectators in the sold-out Millerntor Stadium. In the 27th minute, the visitors took a short kick via Stephan Ambrosius and Guilherme Ramos. After Ramos passed to Heuer Fernandes, the ball bounced just in front of goal.

The goalkeeper wanted to kick the ball out of the penalty area, but instead kicked the ball into his own goal to make it 2-0. It was the 31-year-old's first own goal in his 180th second division match. St. Pauli captain Jackson Irvine (15) had given his team the lead after a corner kick. Goal scorer Robert Glatzel (58) and Immanuel Pherai (60) made up for their goalkeeper's mishap within two minutes to salvage a point.

Coach Fabian Hürzeler's players dominated the game from the outset, appearing more mature and better in terms of play. Only clear offensive actions were rare. HSV, meanwhile, were initially disappointing and appeared to continue their disappointing away performances of the season at the Millerntor Stadium, just seven kilometers from the Volkspark.

After the break, snowfall made the pitch conditions more difficult. The visitors coped better with the slippery surface and equalized with a double strike from Glatzel and Pherai. The game became more open. In the end, the draw was fair.

In the 27th minute of the Bundesliga 2 match between FC St. Pauli and Hamburger SV, Goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes scored an own goal, adding to the curious events of the city derby. Despite the own goal, HSV managed to avoid defeat and draw the game 2-2, keeping their promotion battle alive. Despite this draw, FC St. Pauli remains three points ahead of HSV in the standings, showing their dominance in the 2nd Bundesliga.
