Aston Martin's proprietor and chairman Lawrence Stroll touches upon Adrian Newey's latest position within the team. Renowned as the top car designer in Formula 1's history, Adrian Newey, is the focus of Stroll's chat with CNN World Sport's Amanda Davies. The discussion revolves around Newey's new function as the team's Technical Managing Partner.

"No one in F1 compares to him now": Renowned designer Adrian Newey joins Aston Martin following a 19-year tenure with Red Bull.

A 65-year-old individual has agreed to a long-term agreement with the British team and will join as Managing Technical Partner in March 2025, following almost 20 years with Red Bull. This move is seen as a clear statement of intent from Aston Martin's executive chairman and co-owner, Lawrence Stroll.

During a press conference at the Aston Martin factory in Silverstone, the individual expressed, "I felt like I needed a fresh challenge. I was quite flattered by several offers from various teams, but Lawrence's passion, dedication, and excitement really won me over."

He further added, "In today's era, Lawrence is the only active team owner who truly embodies this role. It feels different to work with someone like Lawrence involved."

Throughout his tenures with Williams, McLaren, and Red Bull, this individual has significantly contributed to 12 drivers' and 13 constructors' championships, during periods of dominance for racers like Mika Häkkinen, Sebastian Vettel, and most recently, Max Verstappen.

His talent for capitalizing on regulatory changes is believed to have influenced Stroll's decision to welcome him on board prior to the introduction of new F1 regulations in 2026.

Stroll stated to CNN Sport's Amanda Davies, "This is a tremendous day for Aston Martin. Everyone wants Adrian [Newey]. There's no one quite like him in the sport because of his numerous achievements."

Stroll believed that once Newey saw his passion, dedication, and the team's company vision, he believed, "You guys will be the next ones." And he felt he could bring substantial added value to helping bring the team to the World Championships they aim to achieve.

The F1 team anticipates a significant improvement in performance upon Newey's arrival. Currently, the team is positioned fifth in the constructors' championship standings, having yet to secure a podium finish this season.

Neither of Aston Martin's drivers has managed to secure a podium place this year, with Fernando Alonso ranking 10th in the driver standings and Lawrence Stroll's son, Lance, ranking 11th.

Following his impressive track record with Red Bull, Adrian Newey expressed interest in motor sports beyond Formula 1, stating, "I've always been drawn to the thrill and technology of motorsport, and motorsport in general is very appealing to me."

Understanding Newey's love for motorsport beyond F1, Lawrence Stroll saw an opportunity to strengthen Aston Martin's position in motorsports, planning, "We are not only looking forward to his expertise in Formula 1 but also exploring potential opportunities in other motorsports, like motorsport."
