Nicki Minaj blows a whistle in Amsterdam.
Last week, the famous rapper Nicki Minaj faced a minor hiccup in her European tour. She was questioned and detained at the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol for allegedly attempting to smuggle cannabis out of the country. This unfortunate event has caused her to cancel a second performance in Amsterdam.
Nicki Minaj's "Pink Friday 2 World Tour" was taking her through different European cities, including Amsterdam. She was scheduled to perform twice in certain locations, including Amsterdam where she had already given a show. However, the second gig has been called off. The organizer, Mojo, announced, "The Nicki Minaj show at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam on Sunday, June 2nd will no longer take place." Refunds will be given for the tickets that have already been purchased.
These events seem to have been related to Nicki Minaj's arrest at the Amsterdam Airport Schiphol just a few days ago. As a result, she had to postpone a gig in Manchester. The rapper was held at the airport for a few hours, and she was suspected of trying to smuggle drugs out of the country. The police spokesperson told BBC News, "Wetildeanickminaj" [sic] was arrested on May 25th around 5:30 pm and was released after spending around four hours there. The case has been closed since then.
A case of racism?
Minaj reportedly said that the Dutch authorities treated her "roughly" during her detention. Additionally, she suggested that her race may have played a part in the situation. But, the police spokesperson denied these claims, stating, "We're just doing our job. It's illegal to bring drugs into another country." Minaj was made to pay a fine of 350 euros. According to the prosecutor's office, a considerable amount of cannabis was recovered from her bag. Minaj stated that the marijuana belonged to one of her security guards.
