New prime video series - Nicholas Ofczarek: It's a good sign when you don't laugh
Gags between Graves: The successful duo from the TV series "The Pass," Nicholas Ofczarek and Julia Jentsch, are currently filming a streaming series in Vienna. In this eight-episode project, available on Amazon Prime Video starting in 2025, everything revolves around a cemetery. They want to solve it, but the staff fights against it.
Ofczarek slips into the role of Heli Wondratschek - "a disgruntled, almost compulsive anarchist," as the actor describes himself in an interview with the Austrian news agency APA. He wants to speak up at the cemetery as the former deputy, after the boss has been killed by a decaying grave statue. However, the responsible authority has called on Ursula Fink, played by Jentsch, to take over the position. She has no idea about the business of death, chaos is pre-programmed.
Although the script certainly aims for laughs from the audience, Ofczarek says: "It's serious business to act. It's a good sign when you don't laugh during filming. If we laugh too much, it's a sign of a disappointing result. We don't laugh at all. We play it like a drama." Otherwise, it would be "very flat and recognizable as such and no longer really interesting" for the viewer.
The team Ofczarek-Jentsch impressed in "The Pass" as the highly unlikely investigator team Gedeon Winter and Ellie Stocker at the German-Austrian border. This project has no connection to the previous one, as Julia Jentsch emphasizes in the APA interview: "You start from scratch with your role." However, one can build on a certain familiarity and experience with each other. She was pleased to be working alongside Ofczarek. The final curtain falls on July 10th.
