Next round of nominations for Paris: Kerber and Boll involved

The German Olympic team for Paris is growing and growing. More than 100 more athletes have been nominated - including some prominent names.

Olympic Games - Next round of nominations for Paris: Kerber and Boll involved

The German Olympic Sports Federation (DOSB) has nominated an additional 101 female athletes and male athletes for the Summer Games in Paris. The athletes come from 13 sports, as the DOSB announced after the third nomination session. The squad now includes over 160 athletes, including reserves.

According to the latest nomination round, 25 medal winners from previous Olympic Games have reportedly made it into the squad. More than 50 nominees will be making their Olympic debut in Paris. "This combination of experience and impartiality is the right mix for a strong team," said Olaf Tabor, Chief Mission Officer and DOSB Performance Sport Board Member, in a statement.

Kerber, Boll and several Olympic champions nominated

During the third nomination round, some prominent names have been considered - for example, tennis star Angelique Kerber, table tennis veteran Timo Boll, and canoe sprint athlete Sebastian Brendel, who has won Olympic gold three times. Additionally, Rio Olympic champion Laura Ludwig (Beach Volleyball) and the two Tokyo gold medalists Ricarda Funk (Canoe Slalom) and Alexander Zverev (Tennis) are part of the team.

Two more nomination rounds are planned for July. The team sports, athletics, rhythmic gymnastics, and equestrian events are expected to be among those nominated then. The Summer Games in Paris will take place from July 26 to August 11. The DOSB expects a team size of over 400 athletes.

  5. The DOSB has announced that Angelique Kerber, Timo Boll, and Sebastian Brendel are among the 25 medal winners from previous Olympic Games who have been nominated for the Summer Games in Paris.
