Auto racing - Newgarden clinches back-to-back Indy 500 victories.

Josef Newgarden, a race car driver, emerged victorious at the iconic Indianapolis 500 for the second consecutive year. The American beat out Mexican competitor Pato O'Ward on the last lap to secure a top spot. Scott Dixon, who hails from Australia, placed third in the race.

Newgarden became the first racer since Helio Castroneves to win the Indy 500 in two years in a row. His feat earned him a hefty bonus prize of $440,000, which is about €405,000.

"I knew we had it in us to win this race again," Newgarden said after the race. "There's no better way to win this race than like this. I need to give Pato some praise. He's a fantastic driver. It takes two people to pull off a move like that."

O'Ward, who drives for McLaren, faced yet another setback in his attempts at winning the Indy 500. He had been close to winning the race two years ago, only to be overtaken by Marcus Ericsson in the final stretch. Now a reserve driver for McLaren's regular pilots, Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri, O'Ward will have to wait longer for his chance at the prestigious title.

Racers were forced to wait before the race on Sunday due to a thunderstorm that struck the track. The delay lasted for around four and a half hours before they could finally start the event.
