New number one faces challenge from Alcaraz in Paris semi-final battle
In the Semifinals of the French Open, Carlos Alcaraz, the 21-year-old Spaniard who won Wimbledon, triumphs over Greece's Stefanos Tsitsipas, marking the end of an entertaining clash in just three sets. This victory positions him against the future world number one, Jannik Sinner.
Alcaraz, a Spanish tennis prodigy, impressed on Court Philippe Chatrier by achieving a 6:3, 7:6 (7:3), 6:4 win against the unpredictable Tsitsipas. This isn't his first rodeo, as he had previously turned heads with a remarkable 50th victory in a Grand Slam match and a remarkable fifth semifinal appearance at any of the major tournaments.
Meanwhile, Sinner, one year older than his competitor, made his way to the semifinals with an impressive 6:2, 6:4, 7:6 (7:3) victory against Grigor Dimitrov. In addition to this impressive victory, he gained the news that he's set to take the top spot in the rankings after the tournament. As the first Italian to do so, Sinner has earned his place as the new leader.
Interestingly, the approaching match between Sinner and Alcaraz represents the youngest semifinal match at a Grand Slam event since the famous encounter between Andy Murray and Rafael Nadal at the US Open in 2008. Both playing as youngsters, they bring fresh energy and anticipation to the game.
Two other competitors, Alexander Zverev and the Aussie Alex de Minaur, will strive to secure the last spot in the semifinals on Wednesday evening. In the meantime, Tsitsipas keeps himself busy – playing with his brother Petros on Wednesday in a doubles match against the French duo of Manuel Guinard and Gregoire Jacq in the afternoon. While doing so, Tsitsipas showcased dedication to his title chances, publicly forgoing his mixed doubles match with his girlfriend, Paula Badosa.
