New goalkeeper unexpectedly included in Germany's European Championship squad by Nagelsmann.

Jan Reichert from 1. FC Nuremberg of the 2. Bundesliga is set to join Germany's national football team as the fourth goalkeeper, taking the place of Alexander Nübel who has been excluded due to injury concerns with Leroy Sané. The 22-year-old goalkeeper mainly played in the Regionalliga Bayern last season and made only one second-league appearance for the Franken.

  1. FC Nuremberg revealed that Reichert would join the German team at the EM base in Herzogenaurach on Monday. The goalkeeper shared his excitement about the opportunity, saying he was initially confused and couldn't believe it, but is now thrilled.

"It's a huge honor for me and makes me incredibly proud," Reichert said.

Julian Nagelsmann, the national coach, decided to include Reichert instead of Nübel, who had been on loan from FC Bayern to VfB Stuttgart. Nagelsmann had said earlier that he would not give up on a fourth goalkeeper and would bring a young player for training. Sané's recent injury concerns resulted in the decision to include an extra midfielder instead of the fourth goalkeeper, as initially planned.

The coach addressed the situation on RTL, "We had to reorganize. We don't know if we have to do something. Leroy is now at around 100 percent, but that was also the case at Bayern, then it suddenly changed again. I decided to add a field player to the EM squad instead of a fourth goalkeeper, as initially planned."

Nagelsmann had been impressed with Nübel's performance while in the team, especially during training sessions, and did not show any dissatisfaction with his performance. "It has nothing to do with Alex's performance. He has integrated very well into the group and brought good training performances," Nagelsmann stated. With Nübel leaving, Reichert would be the ideal candidate to fill in during training sessions.

Despite the sudden change, Nagelsmann expressed his confidence in Reichert, stating that he's a talented young goalkeeper who can contribute positively to the team during training sessions, filling in for the absent Alexander Nübel.
