Neuer plans to continue his career until at least 2025
Following his comeback after almost a year out injured, international goalkeeper Manuel Neuer is making plans for the future and wants to continue his career beyond the end of his contract with FC Bayern Munich in the summer of 2024.
When asked how long he wanted to play, Neuer said after the 1-0 win at 1. FC Köln, his sixth match since his return: "At least as long as Thomas." Thomas Müller had previously announced that he wanted to play until at least 2025.
"I'd be happy to continue," said Neuer, who turns 38 in March: "Of course, that depends on the health situation. But at the moment I'm feeling better and better. I don't have to do as much aftercare as I did in previous games." The leg fracture he suffered while skiing was "a very serious injury. You have to take care of it. Before the game, at half-time, after the game." Not being nominated for the international matches in November "did him good".
Nevertheless, the European Championship in his own country remains his goal. When asked whether he would be in goal for the opening game, he said: "I hope so."
In the Bundesliga, Manuel Neuer's 1st FC Cologne opponents expressed their admiration for the veteran goalkeeper's determination, acknowledging his plans to extend his career until at least 2025, following in the footsteps of Bayern Munich teammate Thomas Müller. During a post-match interview, Neuer, who has been back in action since his skiing-related injury, mentioned his desire to play as long as Müller.
