High trust in the Obamas - Netflix prolongs production agreement.
Following the conclusion of his presidency, Barack Obama (62) and his spouse Michelle (60) introduced themselves to novel initiatives. Among these endeavors is the movie production company, Higher Ground, established in 2018, committing itself to hosting a plethora of voices and experiences. Higher Ground, however, has recently enlarged its alliance with the renowned streaming behemoth Netflix, as per the US trade magazine "Deadline."
Internationally Acclaimed Documentaries and a Netflix Favorite
Since 2018, Netflix and the Obamas' producing firm had entered into a multi-year agreement. Now, this deal is undergoing a renewal. Netflix still maintains its exclusive right to all movies, series, and documentaries created by the Obamas. The monetary terms of this transaction remain unidentified.
Higher Ground has generated work such as the post-apocalyptic movie "Leave the World Behind," adorned with Julia Roberts (56), Mahershala Ali (50), and Ethan Hawke (53) in pivotal roles. This thriller, directed by Sam Esmail (46), was launched on Netflix in December 2023 and became the most popular Netflix film of the second half of 2023 with a whopping 121 million views.
Additionally, Higher Ground's project "American Factory," a documentary, also became extremely significant and received the prestigious "Best Documentary" award at the Oscars in 2020. Their prospective projects encompass a Frederick Douglass (1818-1895) biopic and a romantic comedy named "Fling." In this latter movie, Lupita Nyong'o (41) will take center stage, with Michelle Obama co-creating the film along with Nyong'o, who is also a producer.
