- Netflix announced the signing of Katey Sagal for a role in the upcoming film.
Netflix has added some notable talent to the "One Piece" Season 2 cast, with Katey Sagal (70) and Mark Harelik (73) joining the lineup. As announced on social media by Netflix on August 21st, Sagal will take on the role of Dr. Kureha, while Harelik will portray quack doctor Dr. Hariluk in the manga adaptation.
Fan excitement about the casting
Many fans had hoped that Jamie Lee Curtis (65) would secure the role of Dr. Kureha, but her busy schedule prevented her from joining the cast. Lead producer Becky Clements explained to Deadline that Curtis loves the show, but her numerous film and TV projects clashed with the production schedule.
Despite Curtis' absence, fans were still thrilled with Sagal's casting. "I was so bummed about Jamie Lee Curtis, but Mrs. Sagal will be amazing!! Great choice," one fan shared their excitement. Another fan agreed, saying, "You know what, for Jamie Lee not being in it, this is still a fantastic second choice." Comments also pointed out the similarity between Harelik's last name and his character's.
Notable achievements
Before joining "One Piece," Harelik had a successful career, appearing in popular TV shows like "Breaking Bad" and "The Big Bang Theory." He also starred in the drama series "The Rookie" and "Jurassic Park III" (2001). Sagal is equally respected for her roles in "Married... with Children" and "Sons of Anarchy." Apart from acting, Sagal is also a singer and has provided voice-overs for characters like Leela in "Futurama."
Netflix announced the renewal of the series two weeks after its successful first-season release, which topped the charts in nearly 50 countries. A release date for the new episodes on the streaming platform has yet to be confirmed.
