Basketball - NBA star Doncic achieves statistical feat
Luka Doncic seemed overtired and lost in thought when the F-word slipped from his lips. The Dallas Mavericks basketball star quickly realized his faux pas and interrupted his account: "Oh, shit," Doncic said, and the reporter immediately started laughing.
The 24-year-old had announced the birth of his first child last week and now admitted to being much more tired than usual. However, this did not stop Doncic from immortalizing himself in the basketball history book.
In the clear 147:97 win over the Utah Jazz, the playmaker not only recorded a so-called triple-double with three double-digit statistics. Doncic even managed this in one half with 29 points and ten rebounds and assists each. He is the first player in NBA history to achieve this with 25 points or more. "That feels breathtaking. I don't really know what to say," he said.
Doncic ended up with 40 points, ten rebounds and eleven assists. The star player could be rested early due to the clear victory. With his 60th triple-double in total, Doncic also passed basketball legend Larry Bird (59), who turned 67 this Thursday. "Everyone knows who Larry Bird is. That's why this is very special," said Doncic. For his triple-double, he needed less than half as many NBA games (349) as Bird (897), who played for the Boston Celtics between 1979 and 1992.
