NBA legend and vivacious broadcaster Bill Walton passes away at age 71 due to cancer.
Bill Walton, aged 71, was surrounded by his family, reports the NBA.
"Bill Walton was a remarkable individual," commented NBA commissioner Adam Silver in a statement. He was a Hall of Fame player who revolutionized the center position with his diverse talents, leading him to be a dominant force at UCLA and a winner of both an NBA regular-season and Finals MVP, as well as two NBA titles, and a place on the NBA's 50th and 75th Anniversary Teams.
"Later, Walton applied his contagious passion and devotion to the sport in broadcasting, delighting countless basketball lovers with his analytical and vibrant commentary.
"The aspect I'll remember most about him, though, was his zest for life. He would frequently show up at league events, beaming with a broad grin from ear to ear and eager to share his knowledge and warmth. I cherished our close friendship, envied his inexhaustible vitality, and respected the time he invested with every individual he met."
